June 6, 2024: Engagement Sessions are so important I never shoot a wedding without having them first. This time together gives us a chance to meet and is also where I show you how to be comfortable and pose naturally. I have a quick and easy method that you can learn in 20 minutes!
June 14, 2024: Your photographer should be skilled at capturing both still moments and moving shots. These are camera settings that need to be adjusted - and most often they need to be adjusted very quickly.
June 16, 2024: You will want to make sure that your photographer is licensed and insured. Many venues will not allow photographers to work at the location without both of these items.
June 15, 2024: If your photographer brings up a funny story or joke and then says laugh about it with each other while they fix their camera settings - this is when your photographer is actually capturing those magical candid moments.
June 17, 2024 : Your photographer will need to focus on emotion as well as the events of your wedding day. These often occur at the same time but not always. You will want that photo of your grandparents sitting quietly to the side as they watch everyone dance at the reception.
June 18, 2024: A "First Look" on your wedding day means that the you can take some couples portraits during that time. What this really means is that you will need less time after the ceremony for those photos. First looks give you more time to enjoy the party!
June 19, 2024: You will want your photographer to check with your venue to determine if there are any photography restrictions. For example, there are some churches that require photographers to remain at the back of the ceremony.
June 20, 2024: As a Bride, you should designate a bridesmaid or family member to be responsible for a box of details for the photographer. Things to include: two invitation suites, florals, all three rings, shoes, perfume, something borrowed, something blue, etc.
June 22, 2024: The list is endless of what a wedding photographer can use to create visually stunning images. From flowers, trees, leading lines, architecture, symmetry, water, reflections, windows and even streets or sidewalks.
June 23, 2024: Want to be sure you get a photo of every guest at your wedding? Ask the DJ to put on a high energy song and have the Bride and Groom visit every table just before or after dinner. Take a photo at each table. Take a serious one and then a fun one.
June 24, 2024: If you are getting married in a summer month, be sure you have blotting papers. While it can be edited, shine and sweat can cause makeup to run. These do not photograph well.
June 25, 2024: Even if you choose a shorter coverage time for your wedding photography package, your photographer will need to arrive early. The best time to photograph those gorgeous florals are right after they are put into place before the heat starts to work on them. The same goes for your reception - you will want photos of the set up before anyone arrives.
June 26, 2024: Your wedding photos are the one thing you will have from your wedding for many years to come. I cannot tell you how many calls I get from former Brides saying that they used "Uncle Joe because he had a nice camera" and they do not like their photos - or worse have very few usable photos.
June 27, 2024: The more fun you have taking your photos the better you will look. It is your photographers responsibility to show you how to pose naturally as well as help you enjoy your time taking those photographs.
June 28, 2024: Always feel like your eyes are closed for photos? Have your photographer count with you, 1, 2, 3. On 1, look up. On 2, look down. On 3 look at the camera. Your photographer will snap the photo on 3. This tip works better than you think it will.
June 29, 2024: Remove all cell phones, keys, or other items from your pockets. The outline of these items show up in your photos. It can be edited but will slow the process. I'm all about getting your photos back to you as fast as possible!
June 30, 2024: Clean your rings before your wedding day! Dirty rings photograph poorly, hiding the brilliance of your diamond or stone.
July 1, 2024: ZAP photography is done by a separate photographer hired for your wedding day. This photographer takes photos and then shares the unedited photos to a large screen or TV during your event. Every wedding photographer that I know has a strict clause about being the ONLY professional photographers for your wedding day. There are many reasons why - the most important being that other photographers will interfere with lighting, posing, and your timeline.
July 2, 2024: Every photographer is different as to how they prefer to hold and carry their cameras. There is no right or wrong way, nor does a type of carrier reveal whether a photographer is more experienced than another. The majority do prefer to have their hands free to assist their clients. However, I know some extremely successful photographers that simply hold their cameras directly in their hands.
July 3, 2024: What is bokeh and why do photographers love it? Bokeh is the blurred effect in front of or behind the part of the image that is in focus. Photographers love it because it directs your eye to the part of the image they want you to notice. Bokeh makes the subject really pop! Notice in this photo how beautifully the Bride stands out against the background.
July 4, 2024: Happy 4th of July!
Generally posing for a couple looks better with touch points. Touch points are exactly what they sound like. Places that you are touching. Foreheads, hands to shoulders, leaning against each other, and even laying a head on a shoulder.
July 5, 2024: Where you place your feet matters when posing to look natural. Women look more feminine with variations like one foot in front of the other, weight on your back foot, or front leg bent at the knee. Men look more masculine with variations like both feet facing the camera, equally weighted or one foot slightly in front of the other.
July 6, 2024: The most important factor in choosing a wedding photographer is the style of photography provided. My style is authentic and classic. Your gallery will be one of true-to-life images with a hint of warmth and softness. You will look like you - but just at your very best.
July 7, 2024: Hire a photographer that specializes in weddings. They understand nuances to weddings that other types of photographers have not had a chance to experience. The biggest mistake I've seen from a non-wedding photographer is that they have missed capturing key moments during the wedding day because they did not know where they should have been at certain times of the day.
July 8, 2024: Parasols are trending for 2024! Notice how beautifully they frame the bride's face and expression.
July 9, 2024: There are so many different styles of photography! Light and airy, fine art, true-to-life, dark and moody, documentary, editorial, and black and white are just a few general categories. Most photographers lean towards one style but then make that style their own with their own variation. Angela Foushee Photography is a true-to-life photographer that adds a hint of softness and warmth to the images. Our galleries always include, documentary, editorial and black and white images as well.
July 10, 2024: Your photographer should always ask if there is anything that they should pay attention to during your photo session. Do you have a favorite side? Is there a part of your body you prefer to flaunt or minimize? Letting your photographer know about these preferences will mean the difference between loving your photos and just liking them.
July 11, 2024: Most Brides and Grooms have a "rain day plan" if they are to be married outside. Your photographer, if skilled properly, can almost always find somewhere to get those dreamy photographs - even in rain!
July 12, 2024: Items that are typically editing for wedding photos: cropping, adjusting white balance, removing blemishes, softening wrinkles, exposure, saturation and contrast to name a few. Stayed tuned for tomorrow where I will share a list of items not typically covered during editing.
July 13, 2024: Here are items that are not included in post processing (editing). Facial expressions (turning a frown to a smile), weight, changes to physical features (like making a nose smaller), bra straps and heavy tan lines.
July 14, 2024: The best height to hold your bouquet in most photos is with you elbows at your hip, tipping the bouquet slightly towards the photographer.
July 15, 2024: Your florist designs your bouquet with a "front side" in mind. Most often they have placed a pin on the back where you hold the bouquet. Where they place the pin is what they are noting is the back of the bouquet. When I run in to the florist at a wedding, I always specifically ask them and most often they will show me the best spot to photograph the bouquet - the spot that should face the camera.
July 16, 2024: If you do not have a wedding planner, it is very important to have your photographer and DJ communicate with each other the schedule of events. This is to ensure that the photographer knows where to be during all of those unique moments like father/daughter dances, toasts, bouquet tosses, etc to get those dreamy and important reception images.
July 17, 2024: RAW photos are large, uncompressed and unedited images directly from a professional camera. These images contain all of the data that was recorded by the camera and it's sensors. Surprisingly, these images are quite flat and dull. Only in post processing do you create the beautiful photo.
July 18, 2024: Posing is all about connection - especially for couples. If for some reason your photographer isn’t instructing you, you can always hold hands or hug, The closer you get to your partner, the better.
July 19, 2024: Besides style of photography, trust is the most important element you want in your wedding photographer. Ask yourself before hiring a photographer: do I fully trust them to capture the vision that I have for my day?
July 20, 2024: If you coordinate your hair and make-up trial with your Engagement Photo Session, you will get to see how your makeup looks in professional photos. This can be very different than how makeup looks on phone photos.
July 21, 2024: The best wedding planners understand how to create a timeline that will optimize your photographer's time on your wedding day. They understand what takes a short amount of time and what needs more time built in to the timeline.
July 22, 2024: Where the sun is located is always important, especially for your Bride and Groom portraits. Even on a cloudy day - you still have to know where the sun is. In it's simplest terms, on a sunny day you face away from the sun. On a full cloudy day you face directly into the sun. All of this is designed to capture you in the best light.
July 23, 2024: Where the sun is located is always important, especially for your Bride and Groom portraits. Even on a cloudy day - you still have to know where the sun is. In it's simplest terms, on a sunny day you face away from the sun. On a full cloudy day you face directly into the sun. All of this is designed to capture you in the best light.
July 24, 2024: For women, you can look thinner simply by standing with feet facing at a 45° angle to the camera, then turning ONLY from the waist up back directly to the camera (while keeping waist down firmly in place). The make the pose even better, put your weight on your back leg (the one furthest from the camera) then bend the other leg at the knee.
July 25, 2024: For men, the most common thing I see that can ruin a photo is items in your pockets. Remember to remove your phone and keys (it is really the photographers responsibility to remind you). These items can be edited out but it takes time and there are a few instances that it may not be 100% smooth even after editing.
July 26, 2024: There is a myth about first looks between Brides and Grooms. I've never actually seen it take away from the wow factor when the Bride is coming down the aisle. What usually happens if the Bride and Groom have done a first look: when the Bride is walking down the aisle towards her Groom - they have a secret smile knowing they shared a private moment before sharing it with their friends and family.
July 27, 2024: When you request pricing from a wedding photographer, their pricing information should include absolutely everything that is a part of the package. If you feel as if you are not understanding the pricing or how it works, ask more questions. Many photographers share a pricing GUIDE and not just a price list. We are aware this is a large investment and we want to make sure you feel well taken care of!
June 21, 2024: I've never had a couple regret stepping away from their reception to get those epic sunset photos. It is also a moment that you get to be alone with each other to enjoy that just married feeling before heading back to your guests.

June 9, 2024: Your photographer should have a minimum of two professional cameras. Each camera needs to have dual card slots - meaning they are recording the images on two separate SD cards. While most photographers carefully maintain their cameras, this is just added insurance that if something happens you always have a backup.
June 10, 2024: Your photographer should have a list of vendors they recommend for your wedding day. The list should include venues, planners, florists, DJs, and hair and makeup artists.
June 13, 2024: Light is more important than location. If you do not have appropriate light the location will not look the way you envision it.
June 12, 2024: Ask your officiant to kindly request no cell phones during the ceremony. While cell phones can be edited out of the photo, the arms holding them are often much tricker to edit.
June 11, 2024: Ask your florist to provide a few extra flowers for the photographer. The flowers bring a flat lay to life! They also help with highlighting your chosen color scheme.
June 8, 2024: Your photographer needs to be skilled at diplomatically managing large groups of people during family photos and coordinating with other vendors to ensure the day runs smoothly.
June 7, 2024: Where you choose to get married matters. Photographers can edit a lot of things but your backdrop and general scenery will set the tone for your photo galleries.
