A Full Mass Catholic Wedding in Virginia

The Wedding
Photography by Angela Foushee Photography
Their Story
At its heart, their love story began quietly. It was built not on grand gestures, but on showing up, consistently and faithfully. Over time, it became exactly that kind of love. It gathered itself gently, deepening with every season. So by the time they reached the altar, it filled every pew and every heart.
Elizabeth is a teacher at the very Catholic church where she and David exchanged their vows. She has spent her days pouring into the hearts of children. So, it was no surprise that when her wedding day arrived, those same hallways she walks every morning felt different. The day felt sacred in a new way, joyful.
David, an engineer — the kind of man who notices the details others miss, and who quietly makes everything around him more stable, more beautiful, more whole. It didn’t take long to see that what he builds most carefully is the life he is creating with Elizabeth.

The Ceremony
Elizabeth wasn’t just stepping into a ceremony — she was stepping into the center of her community. The church was alive with familiar faces. Colleagues, families, students and friends. The pews were full in the truest sense of the word.
The full Catholic Mass unfolded with all the reverence and beauty the tradition carries. Prayers spoken, vows exchanged, and readings offered. There were moments of quiet so tender that the whole room seemed to hold its breath. That is the particular grace of a wedding rooted in faith.
When David first caught sight of Elizabeth at the end of that aisle — surrounded by flowers and candlelight and the faces of every person who had ever loved either of them — the expression on his face told the whole story. No words needed. Just a man who had found his person and knew it, completely.

Family
If there is one thing I felt in every corner of Elizabeth and David’s wedding day, it was the particular, irreplaceable warmth of family. Not just immediate family — though there was an abundance of that — but the extended constellation of people who had helped build these two individuals into who they are. Parents doing the impossible task of holding it together while their hearts burst with pride. Siblings sneaking in side hugs between formal portraits. Children weaving through legs on the dance floor, entirely unconcerned with the formality of it all.
Elizabeth’s roots in the Catholic community run deep. She didn’t just work at the church — she was formed there, shaped by the same faith that gathered everyone in those pews. To watch her marry inside that very building, surrounded by the people she has served and loved, was one of those rare wedding moments where you realize you are witnessing something genuinely full-circle.
David’s family brought their own kind of warmth to the day — steady, present, and so clearly proud of the man he has become and the woman he has chosen.

The Wedding Party
Let’s talk about the wedding party — because it was truly something to behold. The sheer number of people Elizabeth and David chose to stand beside them speaks volumes about who they are: people who love deeply and collect friends for life. The wedding party filled the altar with an impressive, joyful presence, each person a chapter in the love story that led to this day.
The palette was a dream to photograph. Cool blues — set against the crisp white of florals and the bride’s gown, with the dark, sharp contrast of the groomsmen completing the picture. Against the architecture and candlelit beauty of the church interior, every image felt like it belonged in a magazine. The color story Elizabeth and David chose was timeless in the very best way.
And the flowers. Oh, the flowers. White blooms cascading, accented with the softest touches of blue — like something pulled straight from a coastal dream, elegant without being cold, romantic without being fussy. Every arrangement felt intentional, every detail considered.

Elizabeth & David
After the Mass, Elizabeth and David stepped into the bright day as husband and wife — and the world around them erupted. That moment, right after a ceremony like that one, is electric. The release of held breath, the surge of joy, the realization that you have actually done the thing you promised each other you would do. I live for capturing that moment.
We stole away for portraits just the two of them, and those quiet minutes are always among my favorites of any wedding day. Elizabeth was radiant, glowing with happiness and relief and the particular beauty of a woman who has fully arrived at something she’s been waiting for. David was attentive, steady, proud. He kept looking at her the way people look at things they know are precious — like he was already memorizing it.
They laughed easily together. They were gentle with each other. And in the spaces between the posed portraits — when they forgot I was there and simply existed together for a moment — that is where the real magic happened. Those are the images that will matter most in twenty years.

The Celebration
The reception was everything a wedding reception should be — and then some. When you gather this many people who genuinely love each other in one room and give them reason to celebrate, the energy practically lifts the ceiling. Tables were adorned with flowers in the same cool blue and white palette that had carried through the entire day and the room felt like something out of a fairytale grounded in real, abundant love.
The toast by Dad made the whole room laugh and then go quiet in that particular way people hear something true and beautiful. There was dancing — the kind of dancing that starts with the couple and slowly pulls everyone in.. There were tears, but the happy kind, the kind you don’t bother wiping away because they’re not embarrassing — they’re just honest.
What strikes me most, looking back at this day, is how effortlessly beautiful and authentic it felt. Elizabeth and David didn’t just plan a wedding — they created an experience that was deeply, recognizably them. Faith. Family. Community. Beauty. Each other.
Elizabeth and David — thank you for letting me be there. For trusting me with your story. Watching the two of you begin your forever inside the walls of the place you love most, surrounded by every face that matters, was a gift I will not forget.
